February 2017

On February 20 we received notice that George "Rocky" Harper passed away in Miami, Florida.  Chris Baker's email text summarized what Rocky meant to us all:

It is my sad duty to inform you of the passing of our beloved, respected and appreciated Secretary of the Ruston-Baker Educational Institution (RBEI), George "Rocky" Harper.  At the time of his death earlier today he was being treated in a Miami hospital for pneumonia  and suffered from liver cancer In the final months of his life.  A memorial service will be held in Miami in March.  We will share further information on the time and place of the service once the Harper family has finalized their plans for the service in the next few days.

No words can adequately express the grief felt at this time by the members of the Board of Directors of RBEI.  We were privileged to work with Rocky for many years in our efforts to nurture and sustain the warmth and uniqueness of the Rustonian family which he served so well..  Rocky served as Secretary of RBEI from the date of its creation to the sad date of his death.  And over this period nunca nos falto

.As President of the Ruston-Baker Educational Institution I will miss Rocky's support and sage counsel, but more than that I will miss him as I would my own brother

Que en paz descanse.

The following obituary was published earlier.
